Teens:  Fitness in the Teen Years

It's recommended that teens get at least 1 hour of physical activity
on most, preferably all, days of the week. However, statistics
show that physical activity tends to decline during the teen years.
Many teens drop out of organized sports and participation in daily
physical education classes is a thing of the past.  But given the
opportunity, teens can reap health benefits from almost any activity they enjoy.
Weight training and exercise can improve strength and help prevent sports injuries.
Once they get started, many teens enjoy the feeling of well-being, reduced stress,
and increased strength and energy they get from exercise.

At Hi 5 Fitness, we focus on getting fit using the following in the teen group:
  • BOSU Balance Trainer
  • Yoga Ball Exercises
  • Light Free Weights
  • Kickboxing
  • Wobble Boards to Develop Balance and Stability
  • Stability Disks to Develop Core Muscles and Good Posture
  • Obstacle courses that they create together as a group
  • Various Sports Balls such as Basketball and Soccer
  • Yoga Balls
  • Yoga and Pilates
  • Step Boards
  • Stretch Bands and Yoga Mats
  • Wii Fit (on occassion, but we all participate together!)
  • Visits to the grocery store to learn how to make healthy and smart food
    choices.

    .
... But kids are motivated by fun.  The Hi 5
Fitness program ultimately is about
maintaining life-long health through healthy
eating and staying physically active.
